SEO Myths
MYTH: You need to submit your site to search engines to get indexed.
There is no longer any need to submit your site to search engines; if there are links pointing to your site they can find it. It is still worth submitting your site to some directories. for help with directory submissions.
MYTH: META keyword and description tags are extremely important for SEO
The description META tag is what many search engines will show in the listings when your site is displayed; so from a marketing perspective it should be well written to encourage click-throughs. As far as rankings are concerned, however, this tag will have little effect if any.
The keywords META tag will generally have no effect on your search engine rankings since the algorithms of the major search engines are now ignoring it.
MYTH: SEO is all about links
Links are important in SEO but they are just one of the factors that the search engines use when ranking a site. If your links all come from link exchange programs and directories, they will not be of much use: what the search engines value are quality one-way links from relevant sites.
MYTH: All the search engines use completely different algorithms - that’s why SEO is so difficult (and expensive)
While all the search engines use different algorithms, they all use similar concepts. If you avoid any underhand techniques and focus on all the seo areas outlined here, there is no reason why you will not be able to achieve good rankings in all major search engines.
SEO is not difficult! A lot of it is just common sense. Our SEO training services will allow you to take all your SEO in house, avoiding expensive retainer fees.
MYTH: It is easy to get banned from the search engines.
As long as you don’t do anything completely spammy like using hidden text or cloaking (showing different content to users and search engines) you will not get banned. Duplicate content will not get you banned, search engines will just pick one page to display ignoring the others.
MYTH: Search Engines prefer static pages to dynamic pages
The technology used to build your website, will have NO effect on your search engine rankings. If you use pages with lots of added query values such as:
www.mysite.com/mypage.asp?id=2909093&
cat=new&area=223&userid=119238
Then you may have a problem getting indexed, but the type of files you have (.asp, .html, .php etc) will not make a difference.
